Get StartedA “yes” vote amends the Missouri State Constitution to: a) create the position “non-partisan state demographer” who would be responsible for redrawing state legislative districts, b) require all legislative proceedings and records to be open to the public, c) ban state legislators from accepting any gift worth more than $5, d) ban candidates for state senator from accepting single campaign contributions greater than $2,500, e) ban candidates for state representative from accepting single campaign contributions greater than $2,000, and f) require state legislators to wait 2 years after leaving office to accept a paid lobbying position.

According to Dan Mehan of the Missouri Chamber of Commerace, this measure would enshrine gerrymandering in the state constitution, creating long, spaghetti-like districts drawn from the more urban areas into the suburbs and, in some cases, into the surrounding rural areas. This measure would amend the Missouri’s State Constitution to a) change the the process for redrawing state legislative districts, b) require state legislative records to be open to the the public, c) lower the value of gifts that state legislators can accept, d) lower the limit on campaign contributions that candidates for state legislature can accept, and e) ban state legislators from becoming paid lobbyists for 2 years after their term in office is completed.
