Get StartedIn FY 2014, City Council approved a 3.17¢ property tax increase to fund a four-bond CIP package (2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020) often referred to as “The Big Ideas”. The 2020 Bond Referendum, which will occur in November 2020, represents the final bond to complete “The Big Ideas”. The Proposed 2020 Bond totals $197,232,000 between three components: $50,000,000 for Housing, $44,500,000 for Neighborhood Improvements, and $102,732,000 for Transportation. Highlights of the Proposed 2020 Bond include: Creating a new program to invest in Charlotte’s Opportunity Corridors with $14,500,000 for infrastructure; completing the Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Program with a final allocation of $30,000,000.
A "YES" vote on the bond referendum is a vote in favor of authorizing $44,500,000 of bonds plus interest to finance neighborhood improvement projects.
A "NO" vote on the bond referendum is a vote in opposition to authorizing $44,500,000 of bonds plus interest to finance neighborhood improvement projects.
Shall the order authorizing $44,500,000 of bonds plus interest to provide funds to pay the capital costs of infrastructure improvements for various neighborhoods of the City, including hte cost of related studies, plans and design, acquiring, constructing, reconstructing, improving, or installing or providing curbs, gutters, storm drainage, sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths, and relocation of utilities; paving, milling, resurfacing, grading or improving streets, roads and intersections, providing public open space, landscaping and, lighting and traffic controls, signals and markers, and acquiring any necessary equipment, land, interests in land and rights-of-way therefor, and providing that additional taxes may be levied in an amount sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the bonds be approved?
