Get StartedAn election to authorize an excess levy for the fiscal years beginning July 10, 2020, July 1, 2021, July 1, 2022, July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024, and for the purpose of providing Four Hundred Twenty-Eight Thousand Four Hundred Seventy-Five Dollars ($428,475) annually, which includes an allowance for delinquent taxes and tax discounts, in additional levies, which levies will be used by the County Commission of Brooke County, West Virginia, to specific county current purposes and expenses, including providing sufficient income for the operation of the Brooke County Animal Shelter. Funds will be used for the feeding and care of animals at the shelter and expenses associated with the care of the animals, training and education of employees and volunteers, for the purchase and payment of oil, gasoline, heating and cooling of the shelter and other supplies needed for the general maintenance and repair of the building, to pay salaries and expenses of the employees; the upkeep of the county vehicle used to transport the animals and for capital improvements to the shelter. If for any reason all of the operating expenses of the foregoing agencies be fulfilled and there remains monies generated by the excess levy, said extra funds may be expended by the Brooke County Commission for capital improvements, to fund mandated offices or for any lawful purpose at the discretion of the County Commission. If the tax revenues received by the Brooke County Commission do not generate sufficient sums of money to fund the allocations for the entity identified herein as set forth, the County Commission shall then not be obligated to expend money from the general funds of the Brooke County Commission to fund such allocations. The proceeds of the levy shall be expended by the Brooke County Commission in the sum of: Brooke County Animal Shelter $428,475 ANNUALLY The additional levy shall be: Class One Property at the rate of 1.20 cents per $100.00 of assessment; upon Class Two Property at the rate of 2.40 cents per $100.00 of assessment; upon Class Three Property at the rate of 4.80 cents per $100.00 of assessment; and upon Class Four Property at the rate of 4.80 cents per $100.00 of assessment. That the approximate amount for the purpose, after making due amounts for delinquencies and exonerations for the Brooke County Animal Shelter is $428,475 annually and that the amount shall be for a term of five years beginning July 1, 2020, July 1, 2021, July 1, 2022, July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024.
