Get StartedElection to authorize an additional levy for the tax years beginning July 1, 2020, July 1, 2021, July 1, 2022, July 1, 2023, July 1, 2024, and for the purpose of providing Four Hundred Ninety Two Thousand Seven Hundred Forty-six Dollars ($492,746) annually, which includes an allowance for delinquent taxes and tax discounts, in additional levies, which levies will be used by the County Commission of Brooke County, to provide funds to operate, maintain, improve and repair the fire trucks, fire-fighting equipment, purchase of supplies and equipment to aid in fire protection, pay public liability and other insurance upon said equipment and the fire departments operating the same, and to make expenditures and pay insurance upon the structures and buildings housing such fire protection equipment and to provide revenues for all supplies and equipment needed in and about the operation of the fire departments. Any funds collected above the amounts specified herein shall be used at the discretion of the fire departments for any purpose permitted by law for the department. Said levy will be used for the following fire departments providing services to the citizens of Brooke County, West Virginia in the following specified amounts: Bethany Pike $44,795 Bethany $44,795 Beech Bottom $44,795 Colliers $44,795 Follansbee $44,795 Franklin $44,795 Hooverson Heights $44,795 Wellsburg $44,795 Windsor Heights 44,795 McKinleyville $44,795 City of Weirton $44,795. For the purpose of paying all costs incurred in the laying of this additional levy, including any cost of submitting the question of the additional levy to the voters of Brooke County. For the purposes of providing funds to operate, maintain, improve and repair the fire trucks, firefighting equipment, purchase of supplies and equipment to aid in fire protection, pay public liability and other insurance upon said equipment and the fire departments operating the same, and to make expenditures and pay insurance upon the structures and buildings housing such fire protection equipment and to provide revenues for all supplies and equipment needed in and about the operation of the fire departments, which said levy will be used exclusively for the following fire departments providing services to the citizens of Brooke County, West Virginia, Bethany Pike, Bethany, Beech Bottom, Colliers, Follansbee, Franklin, Hooverson Heights, Wellsburg, Windsor Heights, McKinleyville and the City of Weirton, that the approximate amount for the purpose, after making due amounts for delinquencies and exonerations for each of said departments is $44,795 annually and that the total approximate amount to be expended for said purpose during the five (5) year term of this levy is $223,975. If for any reason all the foregoing projects and purposes be carried out or completed and there remains monies generated by the excess levy, said extra funds may be expended by the fire departments in their discretion for any lawful purpose. That the separate and aggregate assessed valuation of each class of taxable property within Brooke County, West Virginia, is as follows: Class One Property 000 Class Two Property 317,693,617 Class Three Property 261,780,588 Class Four 472,041,096 TOTAL 1,051,515,301. That the proposed years to which the additional levy shall apply are for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2020, July 1, 2021, July 1, 2022, July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024. According to the Order of the County Commission of Brooke County, West Virginia, entered on the 26th day of June, 2018, the additional levy shall be on Class One Property 1.38 cents, Class Two Property 2.76 cents, Class Three Property 5.52 cents, and Class Four Property 5.52 cents per $100.00 assessed value. If the tax revenues received by the Brooke County Commission do not generate sufficient sums of money to fund the allocations for the entities identified herein as set forth, the County Commission shall then not be obligated to expend money from the general funds of the Brooke County Commission to fund such allocations.
