Get StartedAn election to authorize additional levies for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2019, July 1, 2020, and July 1, 2021, in the total amount of $330,574 annually, for the purpose of paying the general current expenses of The Board of Education of the County of Barbour, for the following purposes: (a) To provide security and security equipment for the safety of the faculty, staff and students of Barbour County Schools, including, but not limited to, school resource officers, video surveillance equipment, automated and monitored security monitoring devices and services. $90,000 (b) To provide instructional materials for students, classrooms, libraries and teachers, including, but not limited to, supplemental books, workbooks, computer software, library materials, other instructional materials, supplies, equipment and classroom desks, chairs and other furniture. $128,000 (c) To provide support for the music and arts programs in Barbour County schools, including, but not limited to, instruments, music, art supplies and equipment, and upgrades to music and art facilities. $35,000 (d) To provide funds for educational travel for students, including, but, not limited to, both curricular and extracurricular trips. $40,000 (e) To provide support for the vocational programs at Philip Barbour High School, including, but not limited to, equipment, software, tools, technology, and program specific requirements. $37,574 TOTAL $330,574 The proposed additional rate of levy in cents per $100 of assessed value on each class of property within Barbour County School District for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2019, July 1, 2020, and July 1, 2021, is as follows: Class I Zero dollars and 0 cents Class II Zero dollars and 2.96 cents Class III Zero dollars and 5.92 cents Class IV Zero dollars and 5.92 cents In the event The Board of Education of the County of Barbour shall obtain additional money by grant or otherwise from the state or federal government, or from any agency of either, or from any other source, for the purposes aforesaid, such additional money may be used either in substitution for, or in addition to, the sums obtained from such additional levies as The Board of Education of the County of Barbour may from time to time determine. The Board of Education of the County of Barbour reserves unto itself as the levying body the right and authority to reduce the rates of the excess levy should increased assessments produce funds beyond projected needs in any year specified in the levy call in accordance with Section 6(g), Article 8, Chapter 11 of the Code. For each fiscal year beginning on and after July 1, 2019, The Board of Education of the County of Barbour shall reduce the levy rates proportionately for all classes of property when increased assessed valuations, excluding appraisal or valuation due to new construction or improvements to existing real property, including beginning recovery of natural resources and newly acquired personal property, would cause an increase of more than four percent in the total projected property tax revenues from the previous year’s projected property tax revenues. In that event the levy rate shall be reduced so as to cause such rate to produce no more than one hundred and four percent from all classes of property, excluding appraisal or valuation from new construction or improvements to existing real property, including beginning recovery of natural resources and newly acquired personal property, of the previous year’s projected property tax revenues from all property.
