Get StartedLR-130 generally restricts a county, city, town, consolidated local government, or other local government unit's authority to regulate the carrying of firearms. It removes a local government unit’s power to regulate the carrying of permitted concealed weapons or to restrict the carrying of unconcealed firearms except in publicly owned and occupied buildings under the local government unit’s jurisdiction. It repeals a local government unit’s authority to prevent or suppress the possession of firearms by convicted felons, adjudicated mental incompetents, illegal aliens, and minors. Federal and other state firearm restrictions would remain unchanged, including for these individuals. Local firearm ordinances that conflict with LR-130 could not be enforced.
A “YES” vote on LR-130 is a vote in favor of restricting local governments authority to regulate the carrying of concealed or unconcealed firearms, and to repeal local government authority to prevent or suppress the possession of firearms.
A “NO” vote on LR-130 is a vote to continue allowing local governments to regulate the carrying and possession of firearms in their jurisdiction.

Montanans deserve to know that LR-130 will jeopardize their ability to keep their families and children safe. We think it is important that voters know in plain language what could be impacted by LR-130. We often hold gatherings in public spaces like parks and court house lawns and the language needs to be clear that rallies, marches, parades, playgrounds etc could be open to weapons if the referendum passes. We also know this could increase the danger of extremists threatening to carry weapons in our public spaces. , in opposition to Legislative Referendum No. 130 (Learn more)
