Proposition E - Vacancies Charter Amendment

Shall Article II, Section 6 be amended as follows: If a seat on the City Council or the Mayor's position becomes vacant, it shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term at a special election called for such purpose, unless the next regular City Election is to be held within one hundred twenty (120) days from the time of such vacancy, and in that event the seat shall remain vacant until filled at such next regular election.When any vacancy shall occur on the City Council, and there remains an unexpired term of more than 12 months, a special election shall be called to fill such vacancy in accordance with Art. 11, §11 of the Texas Constitution. When any vacancy shall occur on the City Council, and there remains an unexpired term of 12 months or less, the City Council by majority vote may appoint a person who meets all the qualifications of this Charter to fill the vacancy until the next regular City Election date. If the City Council elects not to appoint such a person to fill the vacancy, then the City Council shall call a special election to fill such vacancy in accordance with Art. 11, §11 of the Texas Constitution
