Get StartedAn election to authorize additional levies for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2026, July 1, 2027, July 1, 2028, July 1, 2029 and July 1, 2030, in the total amount of $8,280,996.00 annually for the purpose of paying the general current expenses of The Board of Education of the County of Mineral, including the following purposes, provided that the approximate average annual amount considered necessary for each purpose is subject to variation from year to year as provided herein: To continue the present practice of furnishing: textbooks, instructional supplies, and contract classes; student accident insurance; PTO/school matching funds; PTO/school matching funds; instructional equipment and repairs; nutrition; technology (hardware, software, infrastructure, and related expenses); student academic competitions; and school health and safety needs. $1,220,000.00. To continue support of the instructional program through salaries, wages, benefits and fixed costs at a minimum of current levels: professional salaries; professional substitute salaries; extracurricular salaries, including athletics, band, vocational agriculture, Outdoor School; service personnel salaries, service personnel substitute salaries; service personnel extracurricular salaries; dental insurance; optical insurance; and fixed costs for health insurance, social security, retirement, unemployment and workers' compensation. $5,500,000.00 To maintain the present status and improve the transportation system by funding costs not provided in the School Aid Formula, including student transportation. $245,000.00 To maintain an improvement fund for school building grounds; to maintain, improve or correct environmental structural factors of all schools' grounds and to ensure adequate protection against fire hazards, health hazards, and to provide a safe atmosphere conducive to good learning. To provide a contingency for inflation, utilities, insurance premiums and other unforseen costs. Items in this area include: buildings and grounds, including maintenance and repairs, supplies and equipmentl insurance; utilities; and school security systems or programs. $1,244,996.00 To continue to provide financial support of the following community organizations: Mineral County Health Department; Mineral County Libraries; Mineral County Sheriff; WVU 4-H Extension; Highland Arts; and Camp Minco. $71,000.00 Total: $8,280,996.00 As noted above, the amounts set forth in the table above are the average annual amounts for each purpose. The actual amounts for each purpose will likely vary from one fiscal year to the next. If any item in the above-stated purposes is declared unconstitutional or invalid due to judicial or legislative action, then any affected funds will be distributed among the remaining constitutional and valid itemized purposes. The Board of Education of the County is hereby authorized and empowered to expend, during the term of this levy, the surplus, if any, accruing in excess of the above amounts needed for any of the above stated purposes, plus excess collections due to increased assessed valuations for the enrichment supplementation, operation, and improvement of educational services and/or facilities in the public schools of the County of Mineral. In the event that the actual amount collected is less than the approximate annual amounts allocated for the above stated purposes for any one or more fiscal years, the board is hereby authorized and empowered to determine in its discretion (i) which one of more of the above stated purposes shall be reduced for each such fiscal year and (ii) the amount of each such reduction for such fiscal year; provided, however, that the total of all such reductions shall not exceed the amount of such collection shortfall each year. In the event the board of education of Mineral County shall obtain additional money by grant or otherwise from the State or Federal government, or from any agency of either, or from any other source, for the purposes aforesaid, such additional money may be used either in substitution for, or in addition to, the sums obtained from such additional levies as said The Board of Education of the County of Mineral may from time to time determine. The proposed additional levies shall be on Class I property, 22.95c; on class II property, 45.09c; on Class III property, 91.80c; and on Class IV property, 91.80c; for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2026, July 1, 2027, July 1, 2028, July 1, 2029, and July 1, 2030.
