Get StartedThis measure would implement Coos County Ordinance 21-10-004L ("Ordinance") imposing a 9.5% tax on lodging guests at hotels, motels, condos, RV Parks, campgrounds, vacation rentals, and similar accommodations for stays of less than 30 days. The tax will be limited to the Charleston Area, which is defined by the Ordinance as an area including the communities of Barview and Charleston, the lands adjacent to the South Slough estuary, and the Pacific coastline including Sunset Bay, Shore Acres, and Cape Arago State Parks. The Charleston Area is described by map and legal description in the Ordinance. Revenue generated by the proposed tax will be spent on the promotion of local tourism and the provision of County services. 70% of the net tax revenue will be dedicated for tourism promotion and tourism related facilities in the Charleston Area. The remaining 30% will be placed in a dedicated fund that may only be used for public safety programs and a voluntary program for the removal and disposal of abandoned mobile homes and other unsightly or unsanitary waste.
