Get StartedAdem supports universal access to reproductive health care and the full repeal of the Hyde Amendment. Fully funding abortion clinics is crucial to guaranteeing reproductive healthcare for poor and working-class women. Adem sees equal pay for equal work as not only the just thing to do, but also a path to upward mobility for working-class families everywhere. Learn more
Adem is determined to bring equity to a system that treats people differently based on where they fall across racial and socioeconomic lines. We need to reduce America's prison population, which is both the world’s largest and composed disproportionately of low-income black and brown people. We can do this by reforming the bail system so pretrial detention is based on flight risk, not wealth, and by legalizing marijuana and expunging the records of people convicted for the possession of marijuana. For Adem, the fight to end dramatic economic inequality is personal -- he’s been helping folks on the margins of society in Brooklyn attain economic self-sufficiency throughout his entire career. We must modernize jobs for a new era and pass the Green New Deal, which would create tens of millions of new living-wage jobs and accelerate the transition to full employment and 100% renewable energy. Adem strongly supports federal funding to invest in new infrastructure, especially here in Central Brooklyn. A top priority would be increased spending to support the MTA’s Capital Program. The leadership of the Democratic Party has called for $1 trillion of funding over 10 years. However, this can only be a start: the American Society of Civil Engineers has found that the 10-year funding shortfall is actually $2 trillion. Learn more

Our first priority must be to pass the Green New Deal. Doing so will create tens of millions of living wage jobs, transition us to full employment and 100% renewable energy. This will go hand-in-hand with ending enormous subsidies for fossil fuel companies. Learn more
Adem wants guns off of our streets. He will take all the steps currently available to Congress. He will submit legislation to: Ban Semi Automatic Assault Rifles; Place Limits on High Capacity Rounds; Close Gun Show Loophole; Require a background check for 100% of gun sales so that those who are mentally ill or have been arrested for violent crimes (e.g., domestic abuse) cannot buy a gun; Provide funding for the establishment of a national database of firearms because it’s shame that that doesn't already exist. Adem supports Medicare-for-All, which will put us on the path to a single-payer healthcare system that is cheaper, better, and more just than what we have today. Additionally, our federal government must also put resources behind eradicating the inequity in black maternal mortality rates across this country. Learn more

Families in the community are worried they will be torn apart by President Trump’s sweeping ICE raids. Adem understands these fears well: his father’s first stop in America after fleeing war-torn Uganda was an immigration and naturalization detention center. Adem advocates for abolishing ICE, ending the Muslim ban, fighting for a path to citizenship for all DACA recipients, and reforming the employee sponsored visa system so that visas are given directly to employees and expanding the skills eligible for the system.
