Get StartedThe content of the CSE curriculum includes instruction on how to give (and ask for) sexual consent, discusses details of sexual pleasure, and contains cartoon images and descriptions that I consider pornographic. It promotes free sexuality, suggests gender confusion and instructs on sexual exploration during teen adult years as the norm and offers abortion as a viable option for unplanned pregnancy. Teachers and school staff are US citizens and I will protect their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms, including into their classrooms and workplace if they desire. With the inherent risks associated with school violence, our first line of defense may be a teacher or staff member in the event of an emergency. I thank the law enforcement professionals who often generously give of their time and expertise to train our teachers and staff. I appreciate those school employees willing to carry, and support their choice to do so. Learn more
I support putting armed resource officers in any school that decides it is an important part of their school security solution. Learn more
I support charter schools. Learn more
I do not believe that children need to be formally educated at younger ages (pre-k), and I am opposed to universal/standardized curriculum at any level. Learn more
I agree that it would be helpful to have recommendations made by a group like the State School Board or even universities, since the time and energy it takes to review curriculum could be challenging, especially for districts with fewer resources. However I do not think those recommendations should be compulsory. I think that as long as the curriculum complies with basic Utah Constitutional mandates (non-religious, non-sectarian), and the school community is supportive, that the school should be able to utilize the curriculum and methods. The schools should have the authority to select their own curriculum, with the State Board of Education only requiring basic Utah Constitutional compliance for approval. Learn more
I oppose government curriculum and standardized testing in any form, but especially for children whose parents choose for them to be educated at home. Learn more
Homeschooling is an essential part of Utah's educational landscape. I will do everything in my power to maintain the autonomy that should be the right of every homeschool family. Learn more
As the State returns decision-making power over curriculum and testing to the local school councils, and eliminates the financial strings attached to these mandates, the pressure in the classrooms will be lifted and teachers will be able to mentor the students effectively. The elimination of the focus on measurement, assessment, and comparison will also allow for a psychological shift for our students. Instead of coming to school to be measured and compared (which youth do plenty of on their own), they will begin to discover that school can mean discovering love of learning with enthusiastic teachers. I truly trust that parents are best equipped to make decisions for their children, and that local communities are uniquely qualified to make decisions for their local schools. I want to do all I can to restore the power back to the families and local communities. Learn more
I strongly oppose Common Core. Learn more
I also believe strongly that when we support our teachers and remove the legislative restraints that have been placed on them, we will see a positive change in our schools. Learn more
I do not feel that public schools are adequately funded. Learn more
As a member of the State Board of Education, I will work diligently to reduce State regulations on local educational communities so that local school councils have the flexibility to find solutions that work best for their classrooms and students. Learn more
I strongly oppose comprehensive sex education (CSE). Learn more
The Federal DOE is a large and unnecessary taxpayer expense. Learn more

I don't believe in adding taxes on the hope that it *might* go where I want. I vote no, and ask my lawmakers to find another way, with a clear plan. I have no problem with a transportation tax, if the people of Utah want it. But please don't use the students and teachers of Utah as an excuse to sell it. Please join me in voting NO on "Nonbinding Opinion Question #1." Learn more
