Mayor Walsh is directing American Rescue Plan relief to “alternative policing strategies” to better involve qualified mental health professionals in police response to individuals in distress. To assist renters and landlords through American Rescue Plan fund, Mayor Walsh is also proposing a $1 million rent relief fund for tenants in need of assistance who have not qualified for prior pandemic aid. Recognizing the significant housing challenges revealed by the pandemic and the changes occurring in the Syracuse market, Mayor Walsh is also proposing a comprehensive housing study to guide future housing investments that his administration will make. He will also continue the practice of partnering with Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council to complete annual data based assessments of every street in the City and post a map online. He’ll keep adding speed humps for pedestrian safety, add more protected bike lanes, expand bike and scooter sharing and make other mobility improvements. Learn more
