I support repealing Arizona’s right to work laws, which puts employers over workers. I support instating 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave for all workers. I support a statewide minimum wage of at least $15/hour. I believe in rent control to stabilize the cost of housing. I support increased funding for the Arizona Housing Trust Fund, which must also be available for undocumented folks. I support funding for a just transition off of fossil fuels by re-training and providing green jobs for workers. I support investing in municipal broadband infrastructure. I support Arizona using funds from the State Small Business Credit Initiative from the American Rescue Plan to bolster entrepreneurship among indigenous and communities of color. I support fully funding public education, including redistributing funding for charter schools and school vouchers back into our public education system. I support more transparency and accountability over the handling of Empowerment Scholarship Accounts which are so important for students with special needs and students from underserved communities. I support increased funding for public schools to address the lack of resources, transportation, technology, and crumbling infrastructure. I support increasing certified teacher pay to at least the national average, and support competitive pay for all educator support staff such as teacher’s aides and paraprofessionals. I support lowering class size through decreasing the student to teacher ratio to 25:1. I support the increase of school counselors on every Arizona public school campus to reach the recommended ratio of 250 students per 1 counselor so as to foster a safe learning environment, provide a timely response to crisis situations, and increase student academic, social, and emotional success. I support models of shared decision-making and meaningful consultation within school communities by engaging students and families in participatory budgeting processes. I support the teaching of not only civic knowledge, but also equipping students with civic attitudes and skills using Arizona state standards and proven high impact state-level and national-level programs, such as Kids Voting, Mock Trial, We the People, Project Citizen, iCivics, and School Participatory Budgeting, alongside community-based partnerships with local civic leaders and organizations. I support the removal of all “school resources officers” from schools to address disparities in school discipline along lines of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability that contributes to over-policing and the school-to-prison nexus, in order to ensure safe and positive school climates for all of Arizona’s students.
