As a Director on the Range Association of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS), I have opportunities to work with school board officials from across the Taconite Relief Area (an area that encompasses roughly one fifth of our state, geographically) to gain insight into what is most important to our success. Nowhere in the United States is mining as extensive or enduring as it is here on the Iron Range, offering substantial employment opportunities for our residents and contributing significant value to the entire nation. Iron Range mining taxes drive the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, and is responsible for millions in economic development each and every year in the Taconite Assistance Area.
