Get StartedWhile I support law enforcement, I also support criminal justice reform. Learn more
I support fully funding our law enforcement agencies and ensuring our officers have top notch equipment and training. We should also improve recruitment by making police academy training more accessible, such as through tuition reimbursement or loan forgiveness programs. I especially support recruiting minority officers, as a diverse perspective will improve law enforcement’s interactions with the diverse communities they serve. Learn more
While I do not support completely free college, we need to decrease in-state tuition for Colorado residents. If New Mexico can provide free tuition, we can provide inexpensive tuition. Additionally, we should recognize that college is not the right answer for everyone. Trade and vocational schools are great options for many, and can lead to well paying and fulfilling careers. While we decrease college tuition, we should also increase access to trade and vocation schools and encourage our school districts to promote these opportunities to those students who might not find college a good fit. We should also continue to improve recycling programs. And we should leverage innovation to promote cleaner energy, including medium term solutions like increased use of cleaner burning natural gas power and nuclear power over oil and coal. Necessity is the mother of invention, and we should use the opportunity provided by higher oil prices to innovate in transportation as well, looking at cleaner options like natural gas and hydrogen powered cars in addition to electric cars. Colorado should use its position as an energy and technology leader to innovate in all of these areas. Learn more
As a proud gun owner and concealed carry permit holder, I believe in the Second Amendment and the individual right to keep and bear arms. I also believe in gun safety and responsible gun ownership. While most gun owners are responsible, unfortunately there are those among us who act irresponsibly or criminally. For this reason, we need modest gun regulations to keep firearms away from felons and others who should not possess them, and to compel the irresponsible to act responsibly. I generally support Colorado’s current gun laws, which are adequate to meet these needs. However, I generally do not support the adoption of any further gun laws in Colorado, and oppose such stringent measures as assault rifle bans, waiting periods, or limits on the number firearms purchased. We need to address affordable housing by building affordable starter homes families can afford. This starts with removing zoning and regulatory hurdles to affordable housing, including higher density housing like condos and townhomes. It also means removing the ability of NIMBYs to prevent affordable housing. And, if necessary, the state should fund the building of starter home communities, recouping the money when the homes are sold. Learn more
I support strong worker protections and strong unions that benefit working and middle class Coloradans. There is a growing unionization movement in America, and it should be fostered and encouraged. According to the Economic Policy Institute, when union membership was at its height from the end of World War II through the 1970s, income inequality between the wealthiest and poorest was at its lowest.
