Get StartedGive housing to the chronic homeless- As the city of Salisbury program has shown, this reduces costs for the city (as it would statewide). It is easier to get people into treatment if they have a stable address. Learn more
Decriminalize drug use- We want people to seek help, not get used to lying to people about their behavior. We have tried the war on drugs--it failed. Decades after the “war” was declared, we have an epidemic that kills more people per year than car accidents or AIDS ever did. Learn more
Legalize cannabis- Studies have shown a correlation between having legal access to cannabis and lower opioid usage rates. As a comparably safe alternative to opiates, cannabis reform would save taxpayers money by eliminating the costs of enforcement and incarceration for cannabis use and possession. Learn more
Education for children and adults- If parents have opioids in their medicine cabinet, those medications are not secure. We want to believe that our children will not try opioids, but we know they might. Learn more
We have for too long accepted the conservative argument that conservation and job growth are mutually opposing goals. I believe that conservation not only preserves the special character of the Shore, but can help our economy grow. Learn more
By seeking new solutions, such as the creation of a new State Park right here in Dorchester County, we have an opportunity to turn the Mid-Shore into a recreational haven that will bolster our economy for generations to come. Learn more
Increase public transportation/access to addiction treatment and mental health providers- This should include utilizing new technologies like FaceTime/Skype therapy (as health officials in Caroline County are already doing), and even organizing rideshare programs on a county or state level. Learn more
Remove the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction- People love awareness campaigns. Although they don’t always do much help solve problems, they do help make cracks in the stigma surrounding illness. Learn more
Increasing mental health providers- This would pay dividends to our society at large: reducing crime, lowering suicide rates, lowering self-medication, and in the end lowering opioid use. We need to expand access to services, such as instituting the Talbot County embedded school therapist program statewide, while also increasing incentives for individuals to enter the field, such as covering student loans. Learn more
Needle exchange programs - Taking this step will dramatically lower HIV transmission rates, while also saving our health system money in the long run. Learn more
Fentanyl test strips- Fentanyl is killing people every day. Fentanyl is the chief culprit in Maryland’s dramatic increase in overdose deaths. If we provide this inexpensive tool to at-risk populations, we can at least ensure that the user is aware of the increased potential danger of the drug. Learn more
Many of the challenges faced by our rural communities, such as providing rural broadband access, or having to protect the Bay while simultaneously protecting agricultural industries, are not the same challenges faced by the more densely populated areas of our great State. We need a Delegate to fight for our needs, instead of just fighting for their Party. Learn more
