Get StartedViolent criminals get three-strikes – we need to make sure that certain habitual violent criminals only get so many chances to reform before they are put away for good. I support the recent bi-partisan proposal to strengthen our three-strikes law for those violent criminals that pose a severe risk to our society. Learn more
Additional funding for the justice system – when most people think about funding to fight crime, we think about money for policing communities. The justice system, however, has many different parts. We need to increase funding for the District Attorneys’ and Public Defenders’ offices, which are overworked and clogging the system. Learn more
Investing more in community policing programs – No one would argue that we need more officers on the streets, but we should also be focusing on how those officers interact with the public. We need to get back to developing relationships with our hard-working police who put their lives on the line every day for our safety. Learn more
More funding for treatment programs for non-violent offenders – Instead of spending millions of dollars to lock up non-violent offenders, let’s get them the help they need through diversion, substance abuse and social programs to help them fight the need to commit crimes. Learn more
Increase trade with our neighbors to the south – New Mexico can be a center of commerce with Mexico and Central America. Learn more
We need to seriously invest in early childhood education – we currently have a couple of “rainy day” funds here in New Mexico, with billions of dollars saved, to be used for troubled times. Investment in early childhood education is the best way we can help our children succeed and we should be using money from these funds to pay for it. Learn more
Excessive standardized testing and threatening to hold children back in the 3rd grade is doing nothing but leading to fear and anxiety for our kids. Instead, we need to figure out how to provide necessary help for those who need it and teach our students how to learn and not just memorize answers to tests. Learn more
Cut classroom sizes in schools so that educators can give more attention to each student – We should be building more community based schools where even principals know every student in their school. Learn more
I support the strengthening and expanding upon the Renewable Energy Tax Credit – we need to do anything and everything we can to increase production of renewable energy production in this state. Giving tax credits to consumers using all renewable energy sources will save them money and create more economic opportunity at the same time. Learn more
Reinstituting the Solar Tax Credit – our Governor did our state a great disservice when she allowed the solar tax credit to expire. This credit will lead to increased production of solar panels here in the state which will in turn create more jobs and help the economy. It would also save residents money and help our environment as well. Learn more
Continue to allow local communities to have control over drilling – Currently, local communities can pass ordinances restricting potential oil and gas drilling. There have been efforts in the legislature to invalidate those ordinances and give more control to the state. I will fight to allow communities to have a voice on this very important issue. Learn more
I oppose fracking on the Rio Puerco – Here in Sandoval County, they are exploring the possibilities of fracking on the Rio Puerco. This action could lead to the contamination of our ground water for very little gain for our state. Learn more
Institute a Behavioral Healthcare Tax – those suffering from mental illness do not belong behind bars; they deserve proper treatment in a high quality facility. We need to increase funding to help treat those with mental illness before they harm themselves or others. Learn more
Development of a rapid bus system that serves the west side of Albuquerque – we need to figure out how to ease traffic congestion around the west side of Albuquerque and get people across the river in a faster way. A rapid bus system will make it easier for commuters to make their way towards downtown and throughout the city. Learn more
Use other unspent outlay dollars to build necessary community buildings – Like a new adult hospital in Bernalillo county so that we will have enough resources to help critical patients. Learn more
Invest some of the billions of dollars in unspent capital outlay money on public works projects to help repair our aging infrastructure – This investment will also help to create jobs immediately. Learn more
Invest more in local business before we give huge tax breaks to out of state corporations – we need to help our local business grow instead of luring out of state corporations to set up shop, not hire New Mexican workers, and then leave when they are finished with us. Learn more
I will support an increase in the minimum wage to $10.10/hour and have it indexed for inflation moving forward. Learn more
Pay educators a better salary – Our educators are making roughly 20% less than the national average salary of their counterparts. If we want to continue to have quality educators in our schools, we need to compensate them properly. Learn more
