Get Started"They argued that Congress did not intend for the ban on sex discrimination in Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to cover bias against lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender employees. That law, they claim, was intended to prevent discrimination on the basis of sex, not gender identity." This gross effort to undermine our laws cannot be tolerated and should cause us to grow increasingly empowered to stop the direction of hatefulness and negativity and move toward peace and unity. This recent headline in the Portland Press Herald, "LePage joins court brief calling for firing people based on sexual orientation to be legal", is one more example of why we need compassion and justice in our leaders. Learn more
Listening to the latest rhetoric on creating an additional military program called "Space Force" is disturbing. The justification – "dominance in space." First, we do not gain world peace when power and control over others is a motivating factor for what we do. Dominance is always destructive! Second, the amount of money to be spent on such a program would be far more beneficial addressing the health, employment and educational needs in our state and our country. We have every reason to be concerned about the future course of our country and state and yet, we also have every reason to help make positive change happen! Learn more
As caring people, we need to lead with compassion and understanding, kindness and love. Finding better ways to address poverty and food insecurity are a must, but it will not happen by placing greater burdens on those in need. Learn more
Thousands of jobs rely on the lobster business and these absurd tariffs are going to impact these hard working families. Maine needs leadership that will save jobs! Learn more
In Maine, childhood poverty is on the rise! That fact is absolutely astonishing! When the trend in much of the US is actually on the decline, it is hard to believe that in our wonderful state of Maine the opposite is true. This needs to be a huge concern that must be taken up by our lawmakers in Augusta. Learn more
The Maine House of Representatives passed LD 1444, referred to as the “solar bill”, by a margin of 106-38. That is wonderful news for our state as we look ahead at environmentally sound ways to use our renewable resources to better our communities. This will not only bring clean energy, but important skills and employment. Learn more
This being the 4th year in a row of record heat in Maine, extreme weather and drought throughout our country and reports from the Maine DEP of poor air quality it is pretty obvious to me that we need to do something about this. Learn more
We must be on the forefront of renewable and sustainable energies! We need a governor and a government that agrees. Learn more
Governor LePage and his administration have worked against efforts to support renewable energy. We need to turn that around and embrace these opportunities which will not only benefit our environment, but bring jobs to Maine. Learn more
We may not be able to stop what is happening in these moments, but we sure can do our part in addressing climate change by making wise choices and breaking our dependency on fossil fuels. Learn more
with the right attitude, progress is always made on some level, whether it is the change we are looking for or a deeper change within - a clearer understanding; a fresher perspective. I feel that way about Ranked-Choice Voting. When I first learned of it, I was confused by how it would work and whether it made sense, but once looking more closely at how it works, I was surprised how easy it is and how much it is the right thing to do in fairness to all. It’s time to reform our nations gun laws. Assault weapons have no place in civilians hands. We also need stronger background checks, if it takes someone 2 weeks for a background check to clear for a job why shouldn’t buying a gun be the same? Learn more
I am troubled by the latest stalemate in the State House that has left unfinished business on the table, like the people's choice Medicaid expansion that would add care for 70,000 plus adults in Maine. We, the people, voted for it last fall, but roadblocks are continually put in the way! Health care should be a right for all and not controlled by a few. Learn more
