Get StartedWomen's rights are civil rights. The ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (“ERA”) will ensure that equal rights for women will finally be protected by our Constitution. Learn more
LGBTQ rights are civil rights. However, as we have seen during the current administration, there has been intentional backsliding. Learn more
Gina believes that all Americans—of all colors, genders, and sexual orientations—should be treated with dignity and respect and that their equality and civil rights should be protected by the U.S. Constitution. Learn more
The treatment of animals in the wild also must be addressed. The US is the largest importer of trophy animals, including threatened and endangered species. Polar bears, under a global warming threat must be protected from trophy hunters; animal population control on public and private lands (over 2 million animals killed on private ranches alone) must be done humanely. I believe we need to encourage entrepreneurship and small businesses - the engines of economic growth in our communities. According to the Carolina Small Business Development Fund, North Carolina has ranked third in the country for the past twenty years in women-owned businesses, and western North Carolina is ranked first for woman solo entrepreneurs. All of this creates jobs in our District 11, especially for the many families who are headed by single moms. I will empower small businesses with incentives to create jobs. Learn more
The public education system is the bedrock of our democracy. Our children's future depends on their education, and the future of District 11 depends on our children's success. Improving our schools and creating a skilled and educated workforce is key to our communities’ economic health. The Administration has continued to cut public education funds, short-changing our students. Cuts in funding for public schools have reduced teacher salaries and caused difficulty in retaining experienced teachers. Some schools have reduced enrichment classes like art and music. We need to fund our teachers and our schools and create opportunity for our daughters and sons. Learn more
I believe we need to help our young people obtain vocational and college education without burdening them with excessive school loans. I will work on legislation to create more loan forgiveness programs that exchange college time for time served in our military, teaching in rural and inner city schools, or doing other public service. I will work to ensure better education for our children, our teachers, and our future. Learn more
This Administration and the Senate majority refuse to enact common sense gun reforms, that most gun owners support, because they are dependent on the NRA for money. I support universal background checks and closing the gun show loopholes. This isn't about taking away the rights of responsible, law-abiding gun owners. This is about making our country safer and preventing additional mass shootings. Learn more
Gina supports efforts to get us to universal healthcare. Everyone should have the security that comes with good healthcare, and no one should go broke because they get sick. The efforts of this administration to dismantle the ACA have driven up the cost of premiums, and resulted in many middle and low-income residents of our District losing their coverage. Learn more
Gina will work towards a comprehensive immigration solution. Gina supports the American Dream and Promise Act, recently passed by the House of Representatives. This bill will give a path to citizenship to law-abiding and productive members of our communities, including Dreamers. Learn more
I believe in a future where everyone who works hard and plays by the rules can succeed. I am committed to preserving and expanding the middle class by insuring a living wage for all workers, which means at least $15 an hour; by creating well-paying jobs; by protecting the rights of workers to collectively bargain; by strengthening demand for all that Western North Carolina has to offer; and by creating an educated and skilled workforce.
