A study from statista.com in June 2023 revealed that the average hourly wage needed to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Michigan is around 21.50. Currently, the state minimum wage stands at 10.33 per hour. Even with two parents working minimum wage jobs, their income is insufficient to afford a two-bedroom apartment. We are determined to fix this by increasing the minimum wage to a level that ensures everyone in Michigan can afford a decent living. Additionally, we will advocate for rent caps and restrict the amount of "student-only" housing permitted off-campus.
