Get StartedWe have many unemployed citizens, and others who do work, but are unable to earn enough money to support themselves or their families. I will work to support the re-localization of our economy, by shopping and banking locally, and supporting local businesses who employ our community at a living wage. I will work at the state level, as well as with our local leaders and our Chambers of Commerce to increase and fund training programs that will prepare and retrain our community members in new and developing industries. A strong local economy is less vulnerable to failures than the larger global economy. Learn more
Public education is one of our greatest resources and we must build on the Student Success Act (SSA) which has been a huge step forward in funding our schools. In addition to traditional curriculum, the arts play an important role in helping young people become more compassionate citizens and better parents. I want to build on the SSA, and will support additional funding for this important component of our children’s educations. Trade skills are an important element. Learn more
Many studies have documented the despair and depression that the younger generations are experiencing. A good, well-rounded education including basic life skills and job training, are a recipe for a successful young generation with hope and courage to move forward. I will work at the state and local level to support outreach programs to enlist, motivate and train young people for jobs that are emerging, which directly combats despair. Learn more
The climate crisis is real. Rising ground temperatures combined with extended droughts are contributing to wildland fires that not only destroy properties, but also affect the air quality and health of our citizens. We now live in constant fear of wildland fires, and many remember breathing the smoke polluted air during the fire storms of 2018. We must start fighting this climate crisis now, to protect our homes, our forests, and our health. Learn more
I will work to shift our economy to renewables and green approaches, so that we can create thousands of living wage jobs, and end our dependence on foreign oil. I want to be part of the solution so that we can give our children the future they deserve. Learn more
We may not all agree to what degree of the climate crisis has been human caused, but our children and grandchildren’s lives are on the line. NASA’s website states that over 97% of the actively published climate scientists agree the climate crisis is real. If they are correct, we cannot afford to gamble on our children and grandchildren’s futures and do nothing. Learn more
In order to withstand and recover from disasters or pandemics such as the COVID-19 virus, I will support a robust public health agency and well-funded, expertly trained first responders. I will also encourage and support more community emergency response team training (CERT) so that our citizens learn to be better prepared, and enable us to weave our own safety net. By having a community that is better prepared, and trained to work alongside our first responders, we can all be a part of the recovery solutions in response to disasters. Learn more
We need to continue to support and expand the Oregon Health Authority, which has been at the forefront of lowering and containing costs, improving quality and increasing access to health care of all Oregonians. While the federal government struggles to accomplish similar systems, the state of Oregon has done it, and I will support continued improvements to our plan. Learn more
All Oregonians should have access to safe and affordable housing. I will support our local communities in helping to create new housing opportunities, priced at levels people can afford. Affordable housing goes hand in hand with living wage jobs. Learn more
Oregon should lead the way in retrofitting bridges, hospitals and key facilities to withstand a major earthquake or disaster. If we care about our communities, we must be prepared and have a plan. I will work with our local and state legislators to improve our infrastructures so that we are well prepared for any disaster that may occur in our community and in our state. Learn more
