Get StartedWe endure an undervalued appreciation of our fellow men and women. Each can be a missed opportunity in every smiling face. When we settle for a devalued, debased, or abused condition for ANY of our fellows we diminish ourselves. I advocate principles stated clearly in our nation’s Declaration of Independence. We, each, are created equally. Such a high-minded founding is not easily achieved. I do not believe the creation of special “protected” classes of individuals serves justice but is rather a pathetic statement to the effective failure of our society to achieve its aspirations. Public policy must be even-handed. Learn more
I support what is known as an “old moral economy”. It has historically been the lifeblood of free enterprise. A process through which opportunity is sparked from the basis of success in the past. The previously prosperous replenish opportunity going forward–continuing to benefit accordingly, while providing encouragement and investment opportunity to innovators and trendsetters in and out of traditional economies. It is expansive, exploratory, and full of risk and benefit, a fit field of endeavor for the curious and ambitious–qualities highly valued and to be encouraged. The current zero-sum model can never succeed. Learn more
Traditional education, homes with loving supportive parents, and generous communities ensuring the firm footing necessary to make wise choices leading to a satisfying life. I used that model successfully in my career as an educator, emulated those values, and found myself teaching in a community where the citizenry valued those qualities. As a legislator I will encourage the state to return to local control of local schools at every stage–at the Funding level, the School Board, the Superintendent’s office, the principal’s office–and, very importantly, the classroom. Success from local hearts, hands, and wallets. Learn more
Michigan is blessed with natural resource energy riches. The supply of energy-producing resource processes is not the problem. Efficient and safe production, movement, and management of energy resources can become problems. Every BTU of energy lost in operational procedures, every by-product of energy production–not to mention industrial and agricultural– for which a useful purpose has not been developed is a problem. Whether we are talking about energy lost, or gained, or moved, and not safely put to a useful purpose is not acceptable. Such squandering in the current state of technology can no longer be tolerated. Learn more
In an electoral environment where dollars are seen as expression there can never be an equitable campaigning process. Such is the consequence of our high valuation of the right of free speech. Of course, this favors those with funds as does free speech favor those of quick wit and loquacious skills. It is natural and normal enough. I could support a restricted political advertisement environment in terms of duration and intensity. I think it is fit for the community to provide public forums for the exchange of opinions and could be persuaded to support legislation providing publicly owned venues, airwaves, sites, etc. Learn more
