Jim Staton believes it is vital for our State Government to maintain its commitment to an affordable higher education for Ohio residents which will entail  funding our places of higher learning at or above the national averages and continue to closely manage the allowable increases in tuition permitted each year. Jim Staton will work to restore our public school funding and provide our students and teachers the resources they need rather than shifting it into the pockets of the handful of companies currently reaping the profits of the Charter School program. Learn more

Environment / Energy

While every state around us has invested an average of two billion dollars in green energy development, Ohio has done nothing.  This backward policy is hampering our future competitiveness and doing real harm to our environment right now. Learn more

Guns

Jim also supports raising the legal age limit for the purchase of all firearms to 21 and establishing severe threat orders of protection or STOP orders under the law to give law enforcement and citizens the tool they need to temporarily get firearms out of the hands of people who pose a serious and obvious threat to themselves and those around them. Additionally, establishing a civil and criminal cause of action for those who negligently or recklessly allow children and prohibited adults to get their hands on firearms would go a long way toward stemming the tide of senseless violence and suffering. Learn more

Healthcare

When Ohio began charging a State Sales Tax, part of the deal was the creation of a Local Fund to return tax money to the Local Governments to be used in the Community.  In the past eight years this Local Fund has been cut in half and our communities have lost hundreds of millions of dollars as a result. Wages / Job Benefits

Ohioans soundly defeated an attempt by Corporate interests and their allies in Columbus to destroy public worker's unions in Ohio by repealing SB5.  They are unfortunately not done trying.  Two legislators in Ohio are now sponsoring no less than five measures to attack our public employees by altering the Ohio constitution.  Protecting the rights of those who serve our communities and maintaining a voice for working people requires never ending vigilance on the part of we citizens and Jim Staton is dedicated to fighting for working people at every stage in Columbus.
