I am committed to reducing all types of crime—especially violent crime, which has been increasing in Albuquerque and across the county. To effectively reduce crime, I support focused and data-driven policing where the people, places, and problems that disproportionately contribute to violence are targeted, rather than wholesale sweeps of communities. I support: Transparency with the public and the media;  Renewed commitment to community policing; Support for the Sheriff’s Office Advisory and Review Board (SOARB) as a way for the public to raise concerns and to reduce civil liability. Learn more

I will work with the District Attorney and prosecutors to keep violent offenders in jail, and collaborate with regional law enforcement agencies like APD and the State Police on crime. We need to increase the number deputies in the department—and work to retain them. Learn more

I support: Focused and data-driven policing; Strong collaboration with other local and regional law enforcement agencies; Stronger investments in behavioral health and substance abuse programs. Learn more

I will: Double down on a comprehensive approach to public safety that puts repeat, violent offenders behind bars and treats the underlying addiction and behavioral health issues of non-violent perpetrators; End the cronyism, and nepotism  that currently exists in the Sheriff’s office, which drives out our best deputies and employees and hurts morale; Rebuild relationships with the Mayor of Albuquerque, APD Police Chief Harold Medina, and Bernalillo County Commissioners in our collective interest to drive down crime.
