Education

We need to make a significant and lasting investment to make sure every child gets their chance to thrive. To do that, it’s essential that we first lift the 1980-era spending cap on school districts which led to the teacher shortage crisis so that we can increase teacher and staff pay to the national median, reduce class sizes that are among the highest in the nation, and fulfill the state’s long-promised funding to repair or replace outdated school facilities. Environment / Energy

It is vital to our health, environment, and way of life that we create policies that improve our air quality, preserve and protect our state’s rivers, natural areas, and wildlife, and take measures to prevent forest fires on state land. I will work with scientists, environmental experts, and business leaders to ensure responsible policies so that future generations will have a healthy, sustainable environment in which to raise their families. Without water, property values plummet and the economy comes to a screeching halt. Yet, even with this severe shortage, Republicans have been giving away our water for free to a foreign corporation that grows and exports alfalfa for their livestock in Saudi Arabia. As your legislator, I will stop this practice and fight to protect Arizonans’ right to our own water. Learn more

We must ensure we have the tools we need to measure how much water we have left, and how we can plug the holes. We should be incentivizing farmers to transition from flood irrigation to other proven water-saving methods, and incentivizing those of us in metropolitan areas to use more efficient plumbing fixtures, harvest rainwater, transition to desert landscaping and more. Government Reform

Mandating in-person voting means that many people, including the elderly and those with disabilities, will not be able to vote. I will fight to make sure everyone who’s eligible to vote from every background and zip code will be able to cast their ballot without an undue burden that would silence their voices. Learn more

Healthcare

Additionally, perhaps like you, I have friends who find it impossible to afford health insurance, despite doing everything right: sacrificing to get an education, pursuing their dreams, and working hard in respected careers. When they wind up in emergency rooms, it’s financially disastrous for them. That is why I believe Arizonans should have access to quality affordable healthcare, regardless of pre-existing conditions. I will work to allow consumers to buy into AHCCCS, the state’s Medicaid agency, increasing the program’s bargaining power to reduce premiums for everyone. I will stand up to insurance companies that are taking advantage of families, and fight to protect essential benefits such as maternity care, cancer treatments, and mental health care. Learn more

No one should go bankrupt because they get sick. That’s why I support Prop 209, the Predatory Debt Collection Protection Act that would protect homes, cars and savings and cap interest rates at 3% for people facing often unexpected medical debt. Learn more

Housing

This is an all-hands-on-deck moment that requires many solutions. We must not only increase the supply of housing, but incentivize developers to build more affordable housing by making sure we’re prioritizing on-going investments in the Housing Trust Fund. Learn more

An increasing number of housing units are now owned by out-of-state investors which is contributing to the sharp rise in rents and mortgages. We should be finding ways to ensure Arizonans are masters of their own property, not serfs in some out of state investor’s land holding. Learn more

Finally, the legislature needs to stop pre-empting cities from having a say in the widespread vacation rentals that have contributed to skyrocketing rents that price local hard-working Arizonans out of their own neighborhoods. Learn more
