Upgrade the infrastructure of CUNY campuses to ensure students, professors, and faculty have a safe, clean, and healthy environment to thrive in. These improvements must also include an overhaul of the ventilation systems, outdated and unsanitary bathroom facilities, as well as enhanced, consistent wifi available throughout CUNY facilities. Eliminate fees students are required to pay, including technology fees to access wifi that often do not reliably work, application fees, and activity fees that all students are required to pay although not all students participate in the clubs and activities these fees fund. Learn more
Making CUNY accessible to parents by ensuring each campus has a sufficient number of safe and reliable child care centers with capacity for student parents. For campuses that are unable to house large child care centers, vouchers for off site child care should be provided by CUNY. Learn more
Fully operationalizes the Office of Gun Violence Prevention by identifying additional federal and state funding streams in order to: Secure full-time staff Create training and technical assistance for community violence interruption (CVI) organizations Provide annual reports and evaluations of CVIs. I will fight from the State Senate for legislation that would require health insurance plans to provide free coverage of midwifery and doula services to expectant persons, paying these workers a livable wage. Learn more
I will also work with my colleagues in the City to actually implement broadband access in connectivity deserts within the District in order to expand telehealth access so that our neighbors continue to be able to access healthcare when they are unable to leave their homes. Learn more
If elected, I will push for changes in New York that preserve the autonomy and independence of our neighbors living with disabilities. This includes: Access to affordable and accessible healthcare for all, and healthcare and home care services that allow people with disabilities to make their own healthcare decisions. Learn more
Our District continues to suffer from the impacts of these simultaneous public health crises. We need to: Increase mental health resources for schools to help counselors, teachers and other school personnel to address the rising mental health needs of their school communities Increase funding for mental health stabilization centers and mobile crisis capability to decrease the amount of people dying by suicide in our community Stop slashing the funding for nonprofit behavioral health providers whose workload continues to increase as they serve our communities with very little resources. I support Good Cause Evictions, and will advocate for legislation which: Increases funding for both the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and the Landlord Rental Assistance Program to ensure that both renters and small landlords are able to secure their housing, Protects renters from unfair and unreasonable rent hikes, lease renewal denials and evictions. Expand protected bike lanes so there is another truly safe alternative to using a vehicle for constituents of all ages to safely ride in without fear of impatient or aggressive drivers. Learn more
Redesign the bus network to create fast and reliable public transportation, in particular creating critical needed all-day, frequent bus services in the eastern portion of the district, as well as enacting an all-door boarding system that allows riders to pay with the OMNY system. Learn more
