Get StartedA woman's right to choose is paramount to her having control of her life. Women will not be fully equal until they no longer have to worry about that right being taken away. We need to expand access to reproductive health care and education as part of our investment in the long term health of our communities, including age appropriate sexual education for our children, and keeping abortion legal and safe. Funding for our school system is falling behind, and our state has not met its obligation to our children and communities. We must increase education spending to better invest in the future of our region. In addition, while access to two- and four-year degrees is a great tool for people to pursue careers and is often a stepping stone to the middle class, it should not be the only route to a good paying career. We need to invest in trade and vocational schools as well as apprenticeships. Learn more
I believe there is a place for a climate change response and an investment in our economy - we need to fund more renewable energy options that would help us create good green manufacturing jobs in the North Country. Learn more
The North Country has not received its fair share of resources for broadband and cell service. This is a huge missed opportunity to bring jobs and residents to the area and means that we are not investing in the long term economic health of our communities. It is unacceptable that in many parts of our region, including right here in my town of Plattsburgh, cell service is limited or non-existent. Just like electricity was in the 20th century, cell service is now a part of our everyday lives, and requires us to invest in it like the necessity it is. Learn more
I believe in the power of collective bargaining, the right of all workers in both the public and private sector to unionize, and the power of union-utilized tools such as Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), prevailing wage laws, and the right to strike to fight to ensure workers' rights and protections. PLAs are a tried and true tool that means projects are delivered on time, within budget, and good quality jobs are brought to our communities. Prevailing wage agreements mean that when public projects are created using public funding, laborers are paid a competitive wage for their work. Learn more
The ongoing economic disparity that exists due to the pay gap needs to be remedied. Women consistently earn less than men, with women of color earning even less than white women. This perpetuates a cycle of poverty and leaves many of our community behind in their pursuit of the American dream. Women should, and must, be paid equal pay for equal work. Learn more
We must also continue to advocate and advance efforts around a fair minimum wage for all workers. A fair minimum wage means that everyone's work is valued at a livable rate and people can live in our communities with dignity. Having a fair minimum wage reduces the costs of safety net programs and can help stimulate our economy. Learn more
