Our minimum wage in 1979 was at $2.90 an hour. Adjust for inflation and $2.90 per hour jumps to $10.34 in 2017. I may not have been part of the working class in 1979 but I know that $10.34 went a lot farther then than it does today. Since 1979, our minimum wage has been devalued substantially as the cost of living has risen. Learn more
