Get StartedI will always oppose any bill or amendment that restricts access to abortion, including attempts to introduce deliberately burdensome regulations on providers, TRAP laws, and restrictions on home-administered medication abortion. I support defunding the deceptive practice of anti-abortion “pregnancy centers” that mislead patients seeking reproductive care, and removing these centers from public listings. Learn more
Individuals caught in the carceral system often face the greatest burdens to accessing reproductive care. I support the provision of emergency contraception and timely medical care for pregnant people at intake, in custody, and upon release. I support the Time to Care Act, and provisions of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, that will provide paid family leave and universal pre-k to all Maryland residents. Affordable childcare is a reproductive justice issue. Learn more
Tax and regulate marijuana and establish industry standards that repair the disproportionate harm inflicted on communities of color by the racist history of marijuana criminalization. Improve the laws and services to protect domestic violence victims and their children regardless of the victims' resources. Improve civilian-led accountability measures at all levels of government, so that control of policing is returned to impacted communities. Maryland should be a zero tolerance state for police violence. Empower local jurisdictions to reinvest public money into alternatives to policing, such as expanded mental health services and community-based grant programs. Learn more
Today the technology exists to ensure that drivers are traveling at safe speeds on our roads without subjecting Black and Brown motorists to unjust and disproportionate stops and searches. Yet in Montgomery County, we continue to see patterns of racial bias in our traffic enforcement. We need to invest in traffic calming measures, speed, and red light cameras, and take the element of human bias out of traffic enforcement. Pass the Juvenile Interrogation Protection Act to protect kids who get swept up into law enforcement custody. Reduce the tragic impact of gun violence on our communities by regulating unserialized firearms and passing Jaelynn’s Law. Learn more
Address the staffing emergency immediately by finding revenue to speed up raises for educators and support professionals. Provide professional development opportunities for support professionals to become teachers, also addressing teacher shortages and increasing the diversity of the teaching workforce. Fund free public and community college for Maryland residents and forgive outstanding student loan debt. Learn more
Fund more school counselors, psychologists, and social workers – and to do more to meet the needs of families experiencing poverty and families experiencing homelessness. Right now, those jobs are falling on classroom teachers. Pass the Inclusive Schools Act to guarantee civil rights protections for all students in the public system and in private schools taking public money. Learn more
Improve and pass the Climate Solutions Now! Bill to get Maryland to carbon zero before 2045 Divest Maryland’s economy, including public pensions, from the fossil fuel industry Apply a “climate frame” to all of our public policy work, both in how we prioritize housing and transit policies, and by requiring climate impact statements for all bills introduced in the legislature, just as we currently require fiscal impact statements Cancel all highway expansion projects through legislation and focus our transit investments on publicly-owned rail and bus service. . Maryland must be a national leader in the movement to establish a truly universal healthcare system, where every single person regardless of age, race, gender, or legal status can easily access the highest quality healthcare. Regulate premiums for long term care for seniors Work with community coalitions like End Medical Debt Maryland to protect Marylanders from collections agencies and debt. Learn more
Housing is a human right and homes should be safe and affordable for all of us. Protect families NOW with an eviction moratorium extension Follow the Oregon model and stabilize rent increases so that families don’t see rents go up by 20%, 30%, or even 50% in a year Pass social housing reforms that will provide funding for municipalities to purchase or build truly affordable housing for families of all income levels. Learn more
Establish Universal Representation (access to counsel for Maryland’s detained immigrants) Pass the full TRUST act ending 287(g), no cooperation with ICE, including corrections departments. Learn more
Revise Maryland’s income tax code to account for income beyond $250,000, so that our wealthiest residents are paying their fair share Close tax loopholes that benefit massive corporations at the expense of working people. Learn more
A living wage in Montgomery County is $25/hour, not the $11.75 we have today. The frontline workers who got us through the worst of the pandemic earned their pay and we need to deliver for them. We need a living wage indexed to inflation. We should follow the model of other progressive states like New York and Illinois and pass legislation guaranteeing the right to organize for all public sector workers and farm workers, and establish a state labor board with binding authority over labor disputes with localities. Pass the Time to Care Act to establish guaranteed paid family and medical leave for Maryland workers. Learn more
