Get StartedCurrently, if an individual is charged and found not guilty, the charge remains on their record. They will have to pay to have the crime expunged. Being charged and found not guilty can hinder any individual in the hiring process when looking for employment. South Carolina deserves better, our children and our teachers deserve better than what is “minimally adequate”. We can do this by coming together as a state, and making our kids and teachers our number one priority. We’ve made improvements but have a long way to go. Greenville County has lead the way by making starting teacher salary $40k a year. I would expand this to the rest of the state and raise the starting teacher pay per year. Learn more
There are currently over 500,000 uninsured citizens in South Carolina. We must expand Medicaid to cover the gap. The uninsured rate in South Carolina is 19.4%, the national average is 17.3%. If we accept federal funds and expand Medicaid we would cut the uninsured rate by over 300,000. Healthcare is a right and no one in my District or my state should go bankrupt to stay healthy and alive. Learn more
The livable wage needed for the Greenville/metro areas is at $15 an hour. Minimum wage is currently at $7.25 an hour. There is an agreement on both sides of the aisle that this is not enough. South Carolina is one of five states that currently do not have a declared minimum wage. We need to raise South Carolina’s minimum wage to $10 an hour with a three year hold period. We realize this may put a strain on small businesses. Small businesses with a thousand or less employees would receive a tax cut during the three year period. As well as, they would not have to pay a payroll tax credit on the additional $2.75 an hour. Learn more
