Get StartedI am committed to ensuring that the opportunity to serve in the United States Armed Forces remains equal to every individual regardless of race, sex, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. I will advocate for policies to guard against sexual assault and domestic violence in the military so that all individuals can serve their country with dignity, respect, and above all, safety. As your Congresswoman, I will advocate for greater funding and support for the VA to ensure that all veterans are able to access the resources they need in a timely and efficient manner. Administering the VA is one of the great responsibilities of our government, and we should rise to meet the changing needs of our veterans without privatizing services. Learn more
While the Farm Bill provided short-term relief to some of our farmers, these payments are not a sustainable, long-term solution to our challenges. One-third of Kansas farms don't qualify for any assistance at all under the current legislation, and many who do qualify are still not getting what they need. As your Congresswoman, I will work with fellow legislators to find ways to improve the Farm Bill, and make more assistance available to small farms. Learn more
Prices for corn, cattle, and soybeans aren't as strong as farmers and ranchers need them to be. Now, the coronavirus has added another tremendous challenge to our entire economy, including our trading capabilities. Kansas must invest in developing a diverse portfolio so that our crops and cattle can be profitably sold to cooperative countries around the world. Learn more
Kansas has an opportunity to become a leading producer of industrial hemp in the United States. Investing in this crop can result in a large boost to our agricultural industry, and Kansas should capitalize on this opportunity to be innovative in our crop production. I will advocate for smart federal banking regulations to allow farmers, processors, and distributors in Kansas to thrive in this growing industry. Learn more
One thing I hear over and over again – a strong public education system is built with strong teachers supported by their communities. Our teachers are underpaid while being put in charge of some of the most important work our country does. Let’s invest in America’s teachers, let’s listen to them and work with them to find the best way to educate our children. Learn more
When I get to Congress I’m going to bring those ideas back to the forefront. Investing in our youngest means investing in our communities. Learn more
Like most states, Kansas is suffering from a shortage of skilled labor. We must do a better job providing opportunities and incentives for our high school graduates to enter into skilled trade, apprenticeship, and technical training programs. Learn more
More than ever before, Congress must find ways to promote soil health, minimize water use, and lower pollution levels, while never forgetting the people employed in food production and processing. We must continue to meet the world’s need for food with regulations that protect our environment and our people without compromising future generations’ ability to farm and meet their own needs. Learn more
One of the many ways in which we can spark new economic development and job growth is through policies that move us towards renewable energies. Our state’s largest single energy source for electricity is coal, but at the same time, Kansas recently ranked among the top five states in total wind energy generation. We should continue to produce domestic energy that is renewable, responsible, and clean. Learn more
I accept the science of climate change, and I will fight for policies that address this extraordinary threat directly and efficiently. The time for denial and delay has long passed. I will work alongside experts, scientists, environmentalists, and economists to develop long-term solutions that will decrease carbon emissions and restore environmental protections while creating new jobs in clean energy so that we provide a bountiful Earth for future generations to thrive. America is the wealthiest country in the world, it is unacceptable that there are people who must decide between taking their medication and feeding their family. We must empower the government to negotiate lower prescription drug prices under Medicare Part D so that life saving medication becomes more affordable for all. Learn more
Kansas hospitals have had to be extremely creative to give the best care possible to their communities. We need to work with them and expanding the ACA will allow for additional investment in local healthcare. My top priority is to ensure federal dollars are available to provide healthcare to everyone who needs it. Learn more
I want to make sure that every Kansan who wants healthcare gets healthcare without breaking the bank. The best way to achieve equal access to healthcare is to enhance the Affordable Care Act while allowing the health insurance industry to continue to provide private options. Every person should be free to choose between a fortified public option, or private, employer, or union – funded coverage – including those under age 65, and individuals with pre-existing conditions. DREAMers came into our country as children. They did not choose to build a life in the United States without a reliable path to citizenship. I do not support the deportation of DREAMers, unless they have committed violent crimes. I will work to provide permanent protections for DREAMers – and their families – so that they can fully participate in our society without fear of deportation. Learn more
Our borders must be secured. Studies have shown that a border wall will do little to deter unlawful entry into our country. There are humane ways to protect our borders while maintaining the integrity of our immigration process and the safety of our citizens. As Congresswoman, I will aggressively advocate to end the separation and detention of children and families at our border. Learn more
Any discussion about immigration reform must include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented individuals living in our communities. These are our friends and neighbors. Their children are our children’s classmates. I vow to always treat immigrants with the same kindness and respect that our citizens are afforded each and every day, and will work to reform existing laws into a fair and efficient immigration system. Learn more
Successful entrepreneurship depends upon reliable internet access, and right now, too many of our businesses are falling behind or are unable to grow due to lack of access to strong, reliable broadband. Expanding broadband means expanded access to virtual healthcare, online education programs, and working from home. We must prioritize high-speed internet expansion in rural Kansas, and I am eager to find creative solutions that will improve our outreach in the 2nd Congressional District. Learn more
It is time for our nation to invest in energy production leaders like Kansas, which would not only create good jobs, but also lessen our reliance on foreign countries. I look forward to working with other members of Congress on investing in the research and development needed to make it happen, so that our country can benefit from Kansas’ energy production. Learn more
As a Congresswoman, I will support long-term infrastructure planning and investment. We know the strategies that will make our communities more efficient and resilient – it’s time to fund and implement them. The Highway Trust Fund as it stands now is not enough. I will work across the aisle to identify alternative methods to invest responsibly in our nation’s highways. Learn more
