Get StartedThe criminal justice system should strive to rehabilitate and not simply punish offenders and that is why I strongly oppose the privatization of prisons. It is the duty of the State (acting as the representative of the citizenry) to incarcerate and rehabilitate individuals convicted of a crime and this solemn obligation should not to be out-sourced to a for profit business. But more importantly, our system must be free of racial bias in sentencing and must provide all accused defendants with adequate and effective legal representation. I will support legislations that strengthens public defender offices and promotes race neutral sentencing. Learn more
The Riverchase Galleria was the largest shopping mall in Alabama. The City of Hoover generated a substantial portion of its tax revenue from sales at the Galleria’s stores. The rise in online shopping has negatively impacted sales at the Galleria. Many of the stores in the Galleria have closed. The State Legislature needs to provide resources to the City and County to fund economic development of the Galleria site. I will work towards securing such funding. Learn more
I support expanding our award-winning Pre-K program to include ALL our Alabama children. I will fight for our schools and teachers to have more funding and resources to give Alabama kids the best education possible. I will fight to increase teacher pay and lower class sizes. Learn more
We need a comprehensive plan to deal with these problems but first we need to acknowledge without equivocation that climate change is a reality and not a hoax. I will support legislation that helps families and businesses cope with the expected losses due to climate change. If we can invest billions to attract non-union car manufacturers to the State, we should invest likewise in helping families and communities deal with changes in the economy brought on by climate change policies. I also support legislation that increases the number of polling days and provides wider access to polling places. I support an amendment to Alabama’s Constitution that prohibits partisan and racial gerrymanders. Learn more
I support making voting easier and not harder. There are many reforms that I support which will increase voter engagement and participation. For example, I support automatic voter registration. Twenty states (including Georgia, Virginia and West Virginia) have already adopted automatic voter registration. Registering all eligible voters and encouraging civic participation should not be a partisan issue. Learn more
I support expanding Medicaid coverage under the ACA. A recent study showed that if Alabama expanded Medicaid today and took advantage of the incentives to expand coverage included in the recent federal COVID Relief Bill, it would save the State approximately one billion dollars over the next five years. I will support and work towards eliminating the tax on groceries. This tax is perhaps the most regressive tax imaginable. People should not have to pay a sales tax to feed themselves and their families. Learn more
I support an amendment to Alabama’s Constitution providing public employees the right to collectively bargain and protecting the right of private sector employees to form a Union. I also support an amendment to Alabama’s Constitution eliminating the right to work provisions. The so-called “right to work” is only designed to weaken labor unions by forcing them to represent employees who don’t contribute to the cost of such representation. Learn more
