Get StartedMinnesota has placed dangerous and irresponsible restrictions on abortion care providers, obstructing Minnesotans who are seeking abortion care. The state needs to stop funding misleading “crisis pregnancy centers” that provide erroneous information, repeal unnecessary mandates on medical providers sought by anti-abortion extremists, and ensure every Minnesotan who seeks access to abortion care is able to receive it regardless of ability to pay or geographic location. The Supreme Court’s destruction of the abortion rights provided in Roe v. Wade is a catastrophe for reproductive health. Minnesota needs to protect its residents with free, on-demand abortion available to all Minnesotans who need it. Learn more
At the legislature, I will work to reduce incarceration and the number of people under state surveillance. We don’t need excessively punitive systems of criminal justice, we need systems focused on providing what victims of crime want most: reconciliation and prevention of further harm. Minnesota needs to invest in treatment and public safety alternatives that keep communities safe. Learn more
Every Minnesotan deserves to feel safe in their communities. But our current systems that are supposed to provide for safety are often creating more harm and not providing safe communities. Community safety is also intrinsically tied to housing, education, and economic opportunity. We must shift our focus from punitive, state mandated incarceration to an approach that focuses on justice for victims as they themselves define it. Learn more
The Minnesota Department of Human Rights report makes clear that the state must focus on ending race-based policing in Minneapolis. Far too often, communities of color report that police make situations worse, not better. In the state senate, I will advocate for the City of Minneapolis to adopt a consent decree with the State of Minnesota Department of Human Rights and strengthen police licensing standards. Learn more
Fully funding schools would ensure no child is penalized for growing up in the wrong neighborhood. And new funding supports important policy initiatives like ending the cross-subsidy and implementing the Increase Teachers of Color and Indigenous Teachers Act. Learn more
As an Education Support Professional for 11 years in the Minneapolis Public Schools, I have seen firsthand the way our state’s underfunding of schools deprives our kids of the opportunities they deserve. The cost is too high to fall short on providing a real future for our kids. We have no time to lose. Learn more
Minnesota’s children deserve schools that do more than meet their needs - they deserve schools that truly open worlds of possibility for their future. It’s unfair for funding for disciplines like the arts and trades to depend on a child’s ZIP code. We need to return to the principles of the Minnesota Miracle and level the playing field in our schools, increasing state funding until every child gets the school they deserve. Learn more
I will tirelessly work to build Minnesota’s climate resiliency, reduce carbon production, and protect our natural resources. Our fight against climate change requires true systems change to reduce carbon emissions. This means we must overhaul everything from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to the way our cities zone and develop land. We must reduce vehicle miles traveled, and find other ways to reduce emissions, both by increasing efficiency and reducing demand for carbon-hungry power. It is imperative that we act forcefully and decisively to solve this problem. Learn more
It’s also important to ensure that people who have run afoul of the criminal justice system are not mistreated and allowed their basic rights. I support Restore the Vote, to ensure Minnesotans who have served their time are not barred from exercising their democratic rights after their imprisonment is finished. Learn more
Every Minnesotan deserves the human right of healthcare. I will support the Minnesota Health Plan to create a single payer system to ensure no one goes without the care they need. Learn more
Housing policies designed to increase the housing stock do not always provide the immediate relief needed to house our neighbors, many of whom are simply priced out of our district. I will work to build and support more public housing. We must increase our district’s stock of quality homes for neighbors that are currently left behind. Learn more
As an educator working with working-class families I have seen how our for-profit housing market fails working people every day and drives them out of our communities. I will champion building public housing for low income families that is dignified and welcoming. Learn more
It is also vital to protect the rights and welfare of existing tenants. I will work to establish a first right of sale for renters, and a trust fund to help people who rent buy their buildings and turn them into affordable tenant-owned cooperatives that can resist displacement pressures. Learn more
No human being is illegal. I support providing driver’s licenses for all Minnesotans, regardless of immigration status. Learn more
When our neighbors need our help, we need to act collectively to provide it. I will work to bring state resources to the Lake Street corridor that was damaged in the popular uprising following the police murder of George Floyd. The small business owners who made Lake Street the jewel it is deserve our support in rebuilding this vital commercial and cultural corridor. Learn more
