Civil Rights

Implement automatic voter registration when obtaining a Texas Drivers License or State ID. Create a nonpartisan redistricting commission to insure fairly drawn districts. Enhance cyber security and protection of electronic voting systems including security upgrades for election offices and training for election officials. Implement voter verified paper ballots or records for every vote cast. Learn more

Create backup copies of voter registration lists – should there be an attack on our voter registration systems, we should have a backup so that no one is turned away on election day. Extend voting hours and add additional early voting locations to ensure all eligible Texans are able to vote. Learn more

I will fight against proposals that use state funds for school vouchers. Learn more

I support legislation that mandates the state to return to a commitment of funding 50% of Public Ed and stop pushing the burden off on local property taxpayers. I also support closing the corporate loophole to increase business property tax revenue. Learn more

Environment / Energy

Create incentives for rainwater collection and solar for businesses and residences. Expand access to recycling programs in rural areas. Support programs to educate residents about water conservation. Increase use of native and drought tolerant landscaping, permeable walkways and parking areas and grey-water re-use. Educate residents on creating conservation easements on private land and help them through the application process. Learn more

I support legislation to grant authority to county governments to implement common sense land use rules and monitoring of aggregate plants at a local level. Learn more

Guns

Create a public education campaign through the Department of Public Safety to raise awareness around safe gun storage and suicide prevention. Work to create lethal violence protective orders that would allow courts to temporarily prohibit firearm possession for people at high risk of harming themselves or others. Support a comprehensive universal background check including: military crime data, terrorist watch lists, people charged with domestic and intimate partner violence, and people with a history of violent mental illness. Bring together community resources and create prevention teams (with access to the background check database information) including school counselors, mental health professionals, police, courts and family violence professionals who commit to sharing resources to identify individual instances of escalating violence and individuals at risk.
