Drug Policy

While there isn’t an easy solution, there are steps we can take to reduce the impact of this crisis. I’ve led several pieces of legislation to do just this. I was the lead cosponsor for the Protecting Our Infants Act, a bill that requires the Department of Health and Human Services to develop best practices in treating newborns going through withdrawal due to the addiction of their mothers. Furthermore, I lead the passage of the Reducing Unused Medications Act, a bill that would allow for the partial fill of opioid prescriptions. This was an important step in limiting the supply of unused prescription medications in our homes and our communities. Learn more

Economy

I will continue to stand up for our small businesses, work to put a stop to out-of-control spending, and help create incentives for investment and job creation here at home. Learn more

Guns

As a Member of Congress, I have supported Second Amendment rights by voting for and co-sponsoring legislation to allow for reciprocity across state lines for concealed carry, co-sponsoring legislation to prohibit the Army Corps of Engineers from banning firearms on water resources lands, and co-sponsoring legislation to allow collectible firearms to be imported into the U.S. without the approval of the Department of State or the Department of Defense. I will continue to stand up for our Second Amendment rights because I believe the answer to curbing violence in our society is not to take away the rights of law-abiding gun owners, but to enforce and prosecute those who violate existing laws, improve mental health services, and have a comprehensive plan to fight terrorism both overseas and at home. Healthcare

I am committed to standing up for our seniors and preserving Medicare in order to meet their health care needs. Promises made must be promises kept, therefore the plan I support to keep the program sustainable would not change Medicare for anyone who is 55 years of age and older. Learn more

We need to act now to stop Medicare from going bankrupt. I voted in favor of preserving and protecting Medicare with true choice and competition for future generations, while also eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the system. Learn more

Now more than ever, we need to focus instead on market-based reforms that lower costs and increase access to patient-centered care. The American people deserve better than the current healthcare law and I will continue to work to find solutions that fit the needs of those I represent. Learn more

I believe we each deserve access to quality health care at an affordable price, but ObamaCare was not a responsible plan. That is why I have voted to repeal it more than 50 times. It adds to our already out-of-control national debt and puts government between you and your doctor. Learn more

Taxes / Budget

I have introduced a Balanced Budget Amendment in the United States Congress to force tough decisions to be made in Washington. I  believe it is the only way to prevent an undue financial burden on the next generation of Americans and to ensure a strong national defense because our country would no longer be beholden to countries from which we have borrowed.
