As a longtime advocate for increasing parental involvement in our schools, I will continue to work to make sure we do all we can to get more parents involved in their children’s education. We must continue to work together to find ways to reduce overcrowding in our schools and individual classrooms. As we continue to work to bring new businesses and high-paying jobs to northern Nevada, we must make sure we are meeting workforce demands by preparing our students for today’s jobs. Learn more
One of our biggest accomplishments of the legislature this session was bringing forth the Education Funding Formula, also known as Senate Bill 543. The Education Funding Formula has not been changed in the last 50 years, and with the growing economy and population, it was time to create a formula that would help with our education needs now and in the future. I also co-sponsored a bill in 2011 through Assembly Bill 432, that dealt with home energy audits, standardizing and streamlining the process to help homeowners. By passing Senate Bill 229 in 2013 , we renewed our commitment to one of our most valuable resources, Lake Tahoe, by ensuring Nevada remains in the bi-state compact (TRPA). Learn more

We need to work on providing more resources to the homeless youth population, to help them receive all their basic needs, and to continue their education. During the 2019 legislative session, I sponsored Assembly Bill 133, which changes the definition of homeless youth as having different needs than the general homeless population. The counties will work with community organizations to find funding in order to help this vulnerable population. Learn more
During the 2017 legislative session I introduced Assembly Bill 122, which opens up the Victims of Crime Fund to individuals who live or travel to our state and may become a victim of crime. Victims who are eligible are individuals who experience physical injury, threat of physical injury, or death. Learn more
