We need to combine economic factors such as raising the minimum wage and lower cost housing, with situation specific plans such as grants for students studying desperately needed areas and those who might not have the economic opportunity to study, and a nationwide minimal interest public college loan scheme that stops loan sharks from taking advantage of students. Finally, we need a federally backed home insurance plan for areas where insurers refuse coverage due to extreme weather and frequent natural disasters. Learn more

We can build Texas into the energy state of the 21st century. Firstly, that involves fixing the grid; I will work with state politicians to make sure that happens. It also means we have to see the possibilities for new technologies that have a much needed impact. The expertise we have in the oil and gas sectors is crucial to building a world beating green hydrogen production industry right here in Texas. This not only allows for production of hydrogen-electric vehicles with greater range and efficiency, but also for converting everyday cars and trucks to run without emissions. There are so many common sense steps we can do to bring down deaths, all while protecting the right for people to bear arms. Universal background checks, closing loopholes and mandatory red flag laws are supported by upwards of 80% of Americans, including myself. Learn more

Healthcare

We need to lower the cost of medications, both through allowing the government to negotiate all drug prices (a fundamental hallmark of market capitalism) and through manufacturing generic drugs at cost for those in need. Learn more

We also need to ensure that no American is without coverage between jobs by adding a public option to Medicare. This would have the added advantage of further stabilizing Medicare. Learn more

We need to expand access to those who need it most — through rural health clinics and services targeted to healthcare deserts that are free at the point of access. Learn more

Housing

We should draw inspiration from our past, infilling density in our cities side by side with essential infrastructure such as grocery stores, community spaces and reliable affordable transit options. This will require a mix of federal funding, auditing projects to avert cost overruns, and incentivising replacing zoning restricting with community led planning and approval. Learn more

I would favor a ban on corporate ownership of property and cracking down on the use of collaborative algorithms that artificially fix rent prices well above what is reasonable. Learn more

Immigration

We do need stricter border controls, not just at the physical border, but also through airports (The greatest percentage of people in America illegally pass through the nation’s airports and overstay a legally held visa). Learn more

That also means we must remove the economic benefit for unscrupulous companies to hire people here illegally - mandating eVerify nationwide - and ensure a path to citizenship for people who are already contributing to America. Learn more

Infrastructure / Transportation

I believe the federal government has a part to play in creating and enforcing minimum standards of cell phone service and high speed internet. And where there are gaps in coverage, grants should be given to locally driven projects to fix that. Learn more

It is essential that aquifers and other water sources are controlled by the communities they serve, and not owned and exploited by foreign companies. This would allow the water produced to be used according to the needs of the community, and not to favor foreign profits over people’s lives and livelihoods. Learn more

I also believe in empowering post offices. If you do not have options for a physical bank within a certain radius, then everyday banking services should be provided at your local post office. They should also be an easy point of access for as wide a range of federal and state services as possible. Finally, post offices could also be empowered to provide federally backed insurance, especially in the growing number of insurance coverage deserts. Learn more

Taxes / Budget

I favor raising the corporation tax rate significantly on the biggest businesses with the biggest profits, and lowering the taxes of the small, family owned businesses that power our economy. Learn more

I support removing the cap on State And Local Tax (SALT) deductions from your federal tax returns. Instead, I favor the ultra-rich paying their fair share and I favor closing the loopholes that allow those with more money than pride in America to stiff the country out of paying what they should. Wages / Job Benefits

I also know that a minimum number of vacation days and increased job security through treating contractors as employees significantly helps retention and improves outcomes; therefore I would support federal efforts to help these issues. Learn more

I support a federal minimum number of sick days, and a paid family leave plan (co-funded by the federal government and your employer) that can be split between both parents according to need. Learn more
