Get StartedI support the concept of teacher tenure to ensure that classroom instruction remains true to factual information free from outside influences that may be motivated by other agendas. That being said, tenure can also be abused, primarily in my opinion by administrations that do not do their jobs of screening, monitoring and holding teachers accountable for their job performance. I am open to exploring modifications to current practices to prevent those abuses from occurring. Learn more
I have come to realize that simple term limits will NOT solve the root cause of the dysfunction in Washington, Saint Paul and other elected bodies. In my opinion, the current system where legislators choose their voters (gerrymandering), rather than the voters choosing their representatives, is the first reform that needs to be addressed. I am an advocate for non-partisan commissions to redraw district lines, ranked choice voting and dual endorsement on ballots as reforms that can be implemented by the Minnesota Legislature in 2021. I am also in favor of amendments to the US Constitution to provide congressional districts to be drawn by nonpartisan panels and reform of the electoral college system for selection of President of the United States. Without reservation I support gun safety legislation. I believe that assault weapons should only be stored and used at licensed gun ranges, and I do support background checks for all gun purchases. I am also a strong advocate of the foundational principle of the NRA, that being gun safety education. Unfortunately, the NRA has been hijacked by the weapons manufacturers who have perverted the original mission of gun safety and education for their own profit motives. I do not have specific legislation in hand to respond to at this time. Learn more
Of course, Social Security and Medicare are Federal programs and I am not aware that any specific state authority exists to secure their future. However, as an elected state representative I can be, and will be a champion for Social Security and Medicare’s long term solvency. Learn more
I do see the merits of paid family leave for new parents and when family health issues require a stay at home response. I am not aware of pending legislation with regard to paid family leave. If there are specific aspects of current law that you want me to explore and respond to, I will be happy to do so. Learn more
