The 50 Aldermen are legislators and members of the City Council who serve a four-year term to represent the residents of their ward. They often have two offices; one in City Hall and the other in their wards. By custom, an alderman is a source of information and intermediary on behalf of their constituency about city functions and services within the ward. Currently each alderman is allocated about $1.5 million discretionary funds for projects in their ward.
