The Dane County sheriff's office is currently launching a pilot program for body-worn cameras for its deputies. The program should be rolled out county-wide beginning with the 2025 budget to increase law enforcement transparency and improve community trust in the department. Learn more
A single construction bid for the new Jail Space recently came in at $24.6 million over budget. The current jail space is inhumane and many of the facilities are outdated. Additionally, Dane County is spending millions of dollars each year to send inmates as far away as Oneida County to reduce overcrowding. A new facility is necessary and must be constructed in a financially prudent manner. It is also important to enact reforms to the justice system that make it more equitable for all. Learn more
While the Alliant Energy Center and the Coliseum have previously hosted large events, since the UW Hockey team received their own venue on campus, it has been slowly falling into disrepair. The Coliseum is approaching 60 years of use and it is time for a refresh. With the redevelopment of the Alliant Energy Center complex, there is a new opportunity for increased university involvement and utilization of the space. Learn more
Furthermore, county residents have greatly benefited from weed control boats on our lakes as well as increased dredging efforts on the Yahara river. While District 5 encompasses much of the lakeshore dorms and the Eagle Heights community, it also contains a majority of Lake Mendota. Naturally, keeping this vital waterbody clean and healthy will be a major priority for Henry on the County Board. Learn more
